The Ransomeware Hacking Problem in the Moving Industry

In the past couple of years, foreign and domestic moving companies have seen an increase in moving “ransomware” attacks on their software and systems. This is a huge problem because the hackers want money from the companies in order to get their information back or else they will release their customer’s information to the public. A huge example of this was U-HAUL, in September of 2022, more than 2.2 million of U-HAUL’s customers were affected by the ransomware hacking. This includes data leaks, information tampering, and complete lockouts of data. The best way that moving companies are protecting themselves is by investing in cyber insurance. This can be pricey, but it is worth every cent to protect your business from ransomware. Some great cyber insurance providers are THREE by Berkshire Hathaway, AIG, Chubb, and Hiscox. https://www.cpomagazine.com/cyber-security/u-haul-data-breach-exposed-sensitive-customer-data-of-more-than-2-million-clients-over-5-months/.
