Could a Payment Backup Plan Prevent Avoidable Lockouts?
October 13, 2026Could a Pest Activity Heatmap Help Facilities Catch Problems Earlier?
Pest control at a self-storage facility is often handled on a schedule: inspect the property, service traps, and respond when an issue is reported. But pest activity does not always occur evenly across an entire facility.
A “Pest Activity Heatmap” could help operators track where signs of activity are appearing most often. Information from routine inspections, monitoring stations, maintenance reports, and vendor visits could be plotted by building or facility zone.
Over time, patterns may become easier to spot. If activity repeatedly appears near one exterior wall, drainage area, dumpster location, or building entrance, operators can focus inspections and preventive work on that area rather than treating every section exactly the same.
The data could also help with maintenance planning. Recurring activity in one location may point toward gaps, landscaping issues, moisture, damaged seals, or another property condition that deserves attention. Instead of only reacting to individual reports, management gains a broader view of what may be happening across the facility.
What to do about it: Divide the property into simple zones and record where pest-related findings occur during routine inspections. Review the map monthly and look for repeat locations. Better information can help operators focus preventive efforts where they may have the greatest impact.
