The goal would not be to create a perfect packing plan. It would give customers a starting point before the truck arrives. Someone storing holiday decorations could be reminded to keep those boxes near the front, while long-term furniture could be placed farther back.

Better layouts could also benefit the facility. Customers who use their units efficiently may be less likely to feel they have outgrown the space too quickly, and organized units can make future visits, transfers, and move-outs much easier.

What to do about it: Start with a simple digital packing planner for your most common unit sizes. Let customers enter a few major items and receive a suggested layout before move-in. Helping renters plan the space before they fill it could make the storage experience easier from day one.
